"Luxembourg 2020"
4th luxemburgish colloquium on knowledge economy
within a European perspective
December 7, 8 & 9 2010
Following the success of its previous editions, which took place in 2004, 2006 and 2008, we are pleased to announce the new edition of the bi-annual conference “On the Road to Lisbon: Luxembourg 2020".
This seminar is held under the patronage of Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and is supported by the Observatoire de la compétitivité, the Centre de Recherche Public Henri Tudor and the Central Service for Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC).
This 2010 edition is of a great importance, taking into consideration that the Lisbon strategy is coming to an end this year and that its follow up, the EU2020 Strategy, was launched recently. Furthermore, new scenarios opened by the recent financial and economic crisis pose new challenges to economists and policy makers. As per the European Commission, "the recent economic crisis has no precedent in our generation. The steady gains in economic growth and job creation witnessed over the last decade have been wiped out [....].The crisis has also made the task of securing future economic growth much more difficult." At the same time, the measurement of economic performance and social progress is generating much debate.
This new edition of the Lisbon conference aims to bring together a large number of researchers, policy makers for a review of the Lisbon Strategy, a debate on the economic crisis and the prospects or a "smart, sustainable and inclusive growth".
The conference will cover areas of applied economics, politics and development studies, and will focus on the measurements of economic well-being and on the impact of the financial crisis on economic growth.
Special attention will be paid to appraisal and to evaluation of the crisis consequences on the endogenous growth factors (research, education, infrastructure, ...), entrepreneurial dynamics, access to companies’ financing and impacts on public decision. These thematics will be particularly appreciated, especially if they integrate the constraints and peculiarities of small open economies.
